And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years.

A Work in Progress...

In Washington All of July

Hiking, climbing. Headed to do the West Coast Trail on Vancouver Island in the first week of August with my long time friend Bryan. It is supposed to be one of the top 10 hikes in the world. Probably going to be wet!

Back from Nepal

March 20th - April 22nd 2009 My friend Mike and I trekked the Annapurna Circuit, 160miles of trekking around the Annapurna region, and crossing a 18'000 foot pass. We had a great time and enjoyed the mountains. Back from the trek we took a 4 day whitewater kayak clinic and spent three days floating and camping on the Seti river learning to kayak. One of the biggest adrenaline rushes of my life.

In Durango...

Effective August 1st, 2008 I will be living in Durango, Colorado. My decision to move is based on weather, traffic, and proximity to outdoor recreation. I am tired of the traffic and dark / gray winters. 300 days of sunshine is very appealing. Durango sits at 6500' elevation and is tucked up against the La Plata Mountains, just on the edge of the desert. Mountain bike riding, rafting, kayaking, hiking, climbing, bow hunting, all can be found 5 minutes from town.

My house is on the market in Puyallup and I will rent down in Colorado until this house sells or I find the perfect house in Durango. The best way to stay in contact is through my email address, terrymcclain@gmail.com

My Mailing address will be:

February/March 2008 Patagonia Adventure

My buddy Mike Cook and I spent a fantastic month in Patagonia. We flew in Buenos Aires, then on down to Ushuai, Southern most city in the world. A fed days hiking on the island of Tierra Del Fuego, and then on to Torres del Paine National Park in Chili for a 6 day full circuit around the Torres. After that we went back into Argentina, visited Perito Moreno Glacier and on north to El Chalten for Los Glaciers National Park and had some great hikes around the infamous Cerro Torre and Fitz Roy. that is as abbreviated a trip report as I can write. My good friend Mike Cook has a awesome TR on his blog.

I have finally posted pictures available on my Picasa web album

June/July, 2007 climbing, climbing, climbing...

June and July were busy months for me in the mountains. I climbed four routes on Rainier as one day climbs, bringing my total for 1 day Rainier summits to 15qty over 10 different routes as one day climbs up Mt. Rainier. Mike Gauthier posted our trip report on my last climb up Success Glacier Couloir that you can read on his blog.

I also have pics from Rainier Fuhrer Thumb climb

and more pics of the Rainier Success Couloir climb.

Pics of my climb on Mt. Baker's classic North Ridge and my trip report on Cascade Climber.

May, 2007 Utah slot canyon hiking

April 19, 2007 Indonesia culture

I'm back after a one month trip to Indonesia with a short visit to Hong Kong as well. The trip was broken into 4 main parts (links to photo albums):

I think by far the highlight of the trip was the trekking in the mountains of Papua. Civilization is rapidly encroaching on the Yali tribe and before long their way of life will change. This pygmy tribe was only discovered in 1976 and were feared cannibals not long ago. The trekking was spectacular, and very difficult with much slippery trails and a lot of exposure to serious falls.

The diving off of Bunaken island is by far the diving location I have ever been to. I think it is superior to any other location I have been to except for one dive site on the SS Yongola wreck in Australia.

Hong Kong was the best city I have ever visited- clean, friendly, safe, and very efficient transit systems.

Bali is a vacation oasis in the middle of Indonesia. I was blown away by how nice the people are, the low cost of everything, and the overall beauty of it all.

April/May 2006 Desert southwest trekking

As most of you know, I spent 6 weeks traveling through Utah in April and May of 2006.  I also spent some time in Arizona, Nevada, Colorado, and Wyoming.  In all, I visited approximately 21 parks (see list below).  I hiked, Mountain biked, and scrambled through several slot canyons.   The trip was fantastic!  My Dad joined me about ½ way into the trip.  Despite his belly-aching about me killing him in slot canyons and on hikes, I think he enjoyed the trip, and I did too…except for his snoring!

I have put together a photo album for everyone to peruse.  I limited the main album (labeled DESERT SW TRIP) to the best 100 or so shots.  They are not necessarily in order.  Maybe I will get around to that, but at least they are online!

Make sure you check out the first album, labeled “DESERT SW TRIP” .  It has a good mix of the best pictures.  The others are more special interest albums for those who really like my mug, or archeology, or plants and animals.    www.terrymcclain.com/album

Additionally, I develop websites through Durango Web Pro. Please check out what I do while I am not traveling.
